  1. Have some writing fun! Honors 8th

  2. Word Choice • Superb word choice will make ANY piece of writing better! • Even if you change NOTHING else, simply choosing lively, descriptive words will enhance the clarity of your piece.

  3. Word Choice • Ms. Clear was mad. BORING! • Ms. Clear was angered. Slightly better. • Ms. Clear was agitated. Getting there… • Ms. Clear was exacerbated. Better yet… • Ms. Clear was livid! YIKES!

  4. Your turn… • Mom walked across the kitchen floor. • She saw a tiny spider hanging from a web. • Immediately, she let out a loud yell. • We all came running into the room. • We laughed when we saw how small it was. • But she was really scared!

  5. “Dead word wall” • When you use precise words to say exactly what you want to say, your words are more pleasurable to read. • Some words should be banned from your writing. …fun, awesome, cool….

  6. Show, don’t tell. • Another sure fire, easy way to spice up your writing is to show, don’t tell. • Instead of saying something was “nice,” “show” me with words how nice it was.

  7. Prewrite • Prewriting is important. • Writing can always be improved. Novelists rewrite and rewrite many times! • Take 10 minutes. Choose another memory off your life line. You get 10 minutes and that’s it!
