The IGIs Quiz • what are the features of a good indicator? • name three documents referenced in the development of the IGIs. • what options are available to standards developers in transferring the IGIs to their national context. • what does SIR stand for? • what´s the purpose of the IGIs? • name three of the rules that were used to draft the IGIs. • what happens if there isn't a national standards development group? • when will auditors and certificate holders start using the IGIs? • name the three types of members of the IGI Group. • can a draft (non-approved) National Standard be used for the Transfer Process? • together with the public consultations, which other source of information has been used to develop the final draft of the IGIs?

SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Tangible). • name three documents referenced in the development of the IGIs. • Explanatory Notes of the FSC Principles and Criteria Version 5 (P&C V5); • FSC-GUI-60-004 FSC Forest Stewardship Standards: Structure, Content and Suggested Indicators; • existing and approved National and Regional Forest Stewardship Standards; • CB Adapted Standards; • recommendations of the Plantations Working Group; • survey of priority stakeholder issues for the IGIs; • results from the Motions contributing to indicator development; and • stakeholders’ feedback provided during the public consultation periods.

SMART & FSC-STD-60-002; Precautionary Approach; simple language; avoid duplication; generic indicators; one aspect per indicator; indicators apply to The Organization; present tense is used; indicators apply to the Management Unit, unless otherwise stated; etc.

The IGIs Quiz - responses • what happens if there isn't a national standards development group? • Certification Bodies to develop standards following the revised FSC-STD-20-002 'Structure, content and local adaptation of Generic Forest Stewardship Standards‘. • when will auditors and certificate holders start using the IGIs? • When a National Standard, or CB-developed standard (Locally Adapted Standard), has been approved by FSC and starts being applied in the country. • name the three types of members of the IGI Group. • (Sub)-Chamber, Regional or Certification Body representative. • can a draft (non-approved) National Standard be used for the Transfer Process? • Yes, as well as limited scope standards. • together with the public consultations, which other source of information has been used to develop the final draft of the IGIs? • IGIs Field Tests.

Public consultations – general facts 2 public consultations ~ 200 responses per consultation Certificate Holders: 33% of participants Economic: most active chamber, followed by Environmental NGOs: 20% of participants 50% of participants were FSC members High participation of Network Partners, especially from L. America

  9. Consultations: most active regions 1st Consultation Feb – Mar ‘13 2nd Consultation Jan – Mar ‘14 N. America, L. America and Europe most active regions (~25% each), followed by Asia Pacific, Africa and the CIS Countries. North Hemisphere more active

The IGIs Standard – Final Draft Preamble International Generic Indicators (IGIs) Instructions for Standards Developers Annexes Glossary purpose, process summary, drafting rules, annexes explanation.... 200 IGIs in Final Draft to facilitate locally adapted, yet globally consistent indicators applicable laws, payments for Ecosystem Services, elements of the management plan, etc. P&C V5 Glossary plus new terms defined by the IGI Group

  11. The IGIs Standard – a balanced final draft • Achieved by: • considering all consultation feedback; • analysing all field test results; • developing updated drafting rules.
