The Surprising Impact Sleep has on Exercise You know a good workout is essential to your overall health, well-being, and diet and fitness regime.  You are aware that without exercise, you can’t maintain your proper body weight, mental health, stamina, energy, and drive. But there are days you just can’t seem to motivate yourself to get to the gym, hit the trail, or keep the Fit Style Personal Training appointment you set.   3. Why It’s Important not to Sacrifice Sleep for Exercise Getting a good night’s sleep is one of the most important elements to healthy living. Sleep energizes us, keeps us alert and focused, and helps us make clear decisions.  When your body is too tired to exercise, listen to it. The effects of exercising when you’re sleep-deprived could be detrimental :

You won’t get all the benefit of your workout because your body is not functioning at 100%. • You have more of a tendency to hurt yourself working out if you are sleep-deprived. • Your body needs time to heal in between workouts, and if you are tired, your body will not heal as quickly or show the results of your workout. • You will lack the intensity to complete your workout, which also impacts how well you sleep. If you continue to not rest and sacrifice sleep for a workout, you are creating a poor pattern of not sleeping, and the cycle repeats itself. • Your body tends to crave sugar when you are sleep-deprived and that sets you back if you are trying to lose weight.
