STAAR Grades 3-8 Results Explanation • TEA will not provide performance standards until January 2013. • When setting performance standards, scale scores are calculated which is a conversion of the raw score onto a scale that takes into account the difficultylevel of the specific set of questions used on a test in any given year. • The average number of items correct (raw scores) were provided at the state and district level. • The information provided is designed to help the Board understand where the district stands relative to the State.

  3. STAAR Average Raw Score* for Reading and Writing, Grades 3-8 * Average raw score is the number of questions answered correctly regardless of the difficulty level. Performance standards will be released January 2013.

STAAR Average Raw Score* for Mathematics, Science & Social Studies Grades 3-8 **Does not include grade 8 students enrolled in Algebra I, whereas the State numbers could. * Average raw score is the number of questions answered correctly regardless of the difficulty level.   8. 2013 Planned Accountability Timeline • November 2012 - STAAR (grades 3-8) standards approved by commissioner • January 2013 - STAAR (Grades 3-8) results from spring 2012 available with standards • March 2013 – Commissioner releases final decisions for 2013 accountability • June 2013 – Notification reports will be issued to districts for campuses that were rated AU in 2011 and are anticipated to be rated as “unacceptable” in 2013 • August 2013 – District and campuses’ ratings are released, based on percent proficient (Level II) indicator
