The "Bridging the Gap: From Values to Decisions" workshop held on April 25, 2012, in London aimed to develop a transdisciplinary hub connecting researchers and decision-makers. Participants explored how ecosystem service values from natural, social, and economic sciences can enhance governance and decision-making processes. Key objectives included assessing expert knowledge around ecosystem service valuation, clarifying concepts, identifying future research agendas, and establishing collaborative frameworks. This initiative seeks to bridge the gap between science and policy for effective ecosystem management.

BRIDGE: Aims • To develop a transdisciplinary VNN hub of researchers and decision-makers to investigate how ecosystem service values obtained from natural, social and economic sciences can best be integrated into governance to improve decision-making and implementation (VNN challenge 4).

BRIDGE: How it fits with VNN conceptual framework Round 1 Round 2 Round 3
BRIDGE: Objectives • Assess the state of expert knowledge around VNN Challenge 4. • Clarify central concepts around the supply of and demand for ecosystem service valuation evidence and develop a common vocabulary and theoretical approach to integrating this evidence into decision-making. • Identify a future research agenda on how to best integrate ecosystem service valuation evidence into decision-making. • Establish a transdisciplinary VNN hub of researchers and decision-makers that will investigate the interaction between demand for and supply of ecosystem service valuation evidence.
BRIDGE: Values workshop • At today’s workshop we will: • Clarify key terminology and definitions; • Discuss 3 key concepts and develop a research agenda: • Values and shared values • Embedding deliberative approaches and social learning into valuation • Problems with the supply of valuation evidence.
