  5. EPHT Metadata Template • Recommendation from Grantees • Is a sub-set of the full FGDC Template

  6. Metadata Tool Vision • Developed from the Metadata Standard Test • Created from Requirements Collected from Grantees in April & May 2005

  7. Metadata Registry Schema / NYC Toolset • Developed Initially from Work Undertaken by NYC Department of Health • Final product based on a collaborative effort between NYC Department of Health and EPA Region 2

  9. PHASE Collaboration • Worked closely with PHASE participants to evaluate the current EPHT Metadata Template • Obtained useful feedback for improvement

  10. PHASE Feedback: Template • Make the definitions more meaningful • Fields that require entry need to be more obvious

  11. PHASE Feedback: Metadata Entry Tool • Easy-to-understand definitions • Know up-front what fields are used for searching • A tool that could “interview” the users to prompt entry using examples and instructions • The output of the tool should be a clear and easily understood document.

  12. PHASE Feedback: Summary • EPHTN could definitely benefit from consistent, reliable, informative metadata • A good metadata entry tool will be key to ensuring consistency • The repository and it’s functionality must be identified prior to confirming the tool.
