What it is • An impulsive control disorder are grouped sets of conditions that all show behaviors that are uncontrolled and often have self-destructive consequences. • Impulse control problems also are believed to be the heart of most substance abuse disorders such as addictions to alcohol or drugs.

  3. Symptoms • Several discrete episodes of failure to resist aggressive impulses that result in a serious assaultive acts or destruction to property.

  4. Diagnosis • Kelptomania (compulsive stealing) • Pyromania (compulsive, purposeful fire setting) • Pathological gambling • Intermittent Explosive Disorder (unpredictable, aggressive behavior) • Trichotillomania (habitual hair pulling) • Paraphillia (compulsive sexual behavior) • Compulsive eating , cell phone use, internet use, and/ or shopping • Self multilation/self injurious behavior • Necrophilia (sexual attraction to corpses)

  5. Those affected • The onset of these disorders usually occurs between the ages of 7 and 15

Related/Interesting Information • Between 2 and 3% of all the adult population are pathological gamblers. • Males make up for 80% of the Intermittent Explosive Disorder. • 3-8% of all shoplifters suffer from Kleptomania. • About 2% of people suffer from Trichotillomania • Celebrity Winona Ryder suffers from Kleptomania
