2011 – 2012 By, Lily MY FOURTH GRADE YEAR
SCIENCE • A compass uses a magnet to find north • The magnetic pull of the north pole pulls the magnet of a compass towards it • For an electrical circuit to work, you’ll need a D-cell • Some rocks have a common mineral called calcite in them • Rocks and minerals have a number of hardness on the Mohs Scale • Biomes are the major enviroments • There are 5 biomes
MATH • We do a timed math packet called Mad Minute • You start the year reviewing addition and subtraction the move on to multiplication, division, fractions, etc. • When STAR Testing looms closer, the more work she gives you to review
ART • Art docents come to help with getting the project ready and pick the projects too • This year we did an art project about westward movement and about tribe masks • This year, our art docents were Mrs. Fields, Mrs. Kulak, and Mrs. Prongos
FIELD TRIPS • The field trip to the Nutcracker wasn’t the fancy pro one but it’s still amazing • We got to go to the state capitol and Sutter’s Fort, where they blasted a cannon for the fourth grade visitors • At Audubon we tried to catch newts and tadpoles • My group and I found a banana slug on the trail
