  3. 2010 WORLD CUP 2010 SOCCER WORLD CUP • INTRODUCTION • Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality-EMM- was established in 2000 with the amalgamation of eleven East Rand Local Authorities. • Ekurhuleni is situated in South Africa's Manufacturing Heartland and hosts around 8000 industries. • The EMM is not a Host City but will only be used for training venues. • The location of the JIA(O.R.Tambo International Airport, within the EMM boundaries makes EMM an important role-player. • The strategic road network and the presence of the existing rail network running through the EMM are key components to successfully deal with the anticipated influx of visitors (these are N3,N12,N17 R21 R24).

  4. 2010 SOCCER WORLD CUP TRAINING VENUES • Bid Book is the basis for preparations of the event. • Upgrading of Training Venues is in accordance with FIFA list of Requirements. • Each training venue to be equipped with facilities for the Media • Training facilities will have pitches of natural grass, prepared to resemble as closely as possible the playing surfaces in the official match venues • Internet access, public telephones etc. • Provision of necessary security personnel and Marshals to secure training venues.

  5. 2010 SOCCER WORLD CUP • BID BOOK IDENTIFIES THE FOLLOWING STADIUMS AS TRAINING VENUES: • MAKHULONG STADIUM: R35 million is required to complete the project. Upgrading is continuing in accordance with approved Master Plan. • VOSLOORUS STADIUM: R27 million is required to complete the project. Upgrading is continuing in accordance with approved Master Plan. • GERMISTON STADIUM: No Master Plan in place (will not be developed for world cup 2010). • MEHLARENG STADIUM: No Master Plan in place will not be developed for 2010 w/c.

  6. 2010 SOCCER WORLD CUP • LEGACY PROJECTS • SINABA STADIUM: • Gauteng Province have allocated R10 million in 2005/06. • Project is being run by Province in conjunction with EMM. • Master plan is being finalized. • KATLEHONG STADIUM: R31 million is required to complete the project. Upgrading is continuing in accordance with approved Master Plan.
