St Therese of Lisieux. Childhood. She was born January 2 nd 1873 in France. She had 9 siblings ( brothers and sisters ). Her Mum was called Zelie and her Father was called Louis Martin . Her mum died when Therese was four and it was a sad moment.

  2. Childhood She was born January 2nd 1873 in France. She had 9 siblings (brothers and sisters). Her Mum was called Zelie and her Father was called Louis Martin. Her mum died when Therese was four and it was a sad moment.

  3. Therese needed much attention. Her father and sisters babied young Therese, she had a spirit that wanted everything. Her family surrounded her with affection. She was educated in very Catholic surroundings, including mass at 5:30am, fasts, and was given a Catholic education.

  4. Illness Therese was often sick. She suffered from nervous tremors (shaking or trembling movements) assuming that she was cold the family covered her in blankets, her teeth were chattering so the family called their local doctor but he did not know what was wrong. Therese prayed and received a sign from Mary (a statue smiled at her) and she got better.

  5. When she was 14 on Christmas Eve, Therese decided she wanted to dedicate her life to God.

  6. Nun life Therese wanted to enter a Convent, but since she was only 15 they would not let her in. Therese's sisters were already nuns and were at the Carmelite Convent where Therese wanted to enter. Therese even asked the Pope to let her be a nun. Finally the Bishop agreed and she joined the Convent on April 9th 1888 aged 15.

  7. Death She died of tuberculosis on the 30th September 1897 at the age of 24. Her last words were “My God, I love you.” Through sickness, and dark nights, and doubt, and fear she remained faithful to God, rooted in his merciful love.

  8. Saint life Therese was canonized on May 17th 1925 She is patron of gardens at Vatican city, loss of parents, florists, gardeners, tuberculosis and missionaries. Her feast day is October 1st

  9. St Therese taught that we can be closer to God through the “Little Way.” Doing small acts for others with love.
