  3. What the Lord of the Rings is about. • It’s about four hobbits who go on a quest. • They go with eight other people to destroy a ring. • The ring was once owned by Sauron. • It needs to be cast into Mount Doom. • If Sauron gets it, then Middle-Earth will be no more.

  4. Why the books are so popular • The books are very complex. • Some people say that the characters “come alive”. • They can feel the character’s emotions.

  5. Where the story takes place • The story takes place in Middle-Earth. • There are many types of races in Middle-Earth. • There are Elves, Dwarves, Men, Orcs,and Ents. • There are also Balrogs, Dragons, and Hobbits. • Middle-Earth has mountains, rivers, cities,etc. that are weirdly named.

  6. Where the story takes place • The races all speak The Common Speech. • The races also have their own languages. • Some examples are Taur e-Ndaedelos, michel, and orch. • These mean ‘forest of the great fear’, ‘great’, and ‘orc’.

  7. When the story takes place • At the end of the third age. • There are four ages. • First age, Second age, Third age, and Fourth age. • In the fourth age, men will dominate all.

  8. Who the characters are • Frodo Baggins • Bilbo Baggins • Gimli son of Gloin • Aragorn- the future high king of Gondor • Gandalf the Wizard • Saruman the Wizard

  11. How long the books have been in print • They were originally published in 1954-1955. • There have been many edited versions of the books. • They are still coming out with edited books today.
