  1. Difference Between Sheet and Plate

  2. The major Difference Between Sheet and Plate is their thickness and applications. As sheet is a thin material so used in automotive and decorative purpose. While Plates are used for heavy industrial work, construction and machinery. Steel Sheets and Plates are the flat products used in Industrial use such as shipbuilding, manufacturing welded pipes, fabrication and structural applications. Plates and sheets are measured using different units. Thickness of Sheets are measured using the Gauge, such as 10 gauge, 20 gauge etc. On the other hand steel plate thickness is measured in millimeters (mm) or inches. However Indian manufacturers and suppliers of sheet measure it in mm and plates in mm or meters. European suppliers measure both sheets and plates in millimeter. Additionally, in the USA, sheet thickness is measured by gauge numbers as per the American Standard Gauge system, while plates are measured in inches.
