  2. Welcome to 6th Grade Math at KJH!

  3. All About Me • My background • I am a Baylor Bear. Everyone in my household went to Baylor. • I have been married for 35 years and I have lived in Katy for 33 years. • Both of my children went to Katy Elementary, Katy Junior High and Katy High School. I LOVEKaty Football. • My experience • I’ve been teaching for 26 years. • I have been teaching 6th grade math at KJH for 10 years • I taught 5th grade math at Katy Elementary for 12 years

  4. My Family • My husband • Mike • My children • daughter, Lauren—a commercial insurance broker • son, Stephen—an accountant • dog---Jack

  5. My Goals • To give you the academic and social skills you need to progress to seventh grade. • To provide a supportive and fun classroom environment. • To help you develop good work habits and organizational skills needed for success in junior high.

  6. Classroom Community • We will work very hard and very fast in math. 71% of the material you will learn is brand new to you and will be on TAKS in April. • Our class rules are: • Be respectful and responsible. I will not tolerate interruption of teaching or learning or wasting of instructional time. • Be organized and follow directions. If you need help organizing your stuff, ask me! • Be on time. Tardiness disrupts learning. • Be prepared. You get out of school what you put in to it.

  7. Non-Negotiable • Teaching and Learning will NOT be interrupted!

  8. My classroom philosophy • Work hard • Be Nice

  9. Required Daily Supplies • Math Interactive Student Notebook (ISN) • Covered Math Book (fine 25¢) • Math Binder with Math Boxes and Texas Lab Manual • Pencil Bag with pencil and hand held sharpener and checking pen • Notebook paper • ·Coupons and Planner (tracker)

  10. Classroom Store • If you do not have supplies, you may purchase supplies from the class store. There are pencils, pens, notebook paper and erasers available for purchase. Keep change in your pencil bag as I do not give change. • Coupons may be used to purchase supplies. • I will loan you supplies with the • appropriate collateral (something you want back).

  11. Coupons • Each six weeks you will receive a sheet of coupons. • These coupons can be used with permission to go to your locker, the restroom, or to get a drink during class. However, just because you have a coupon that you wish to use does not mean that you will be given permission to leave the room. If you do NOT have a coupon and your planner (tracker), you will not be allowed to leave the classroom.

  12. Coupons. • Coupons will be taken up as a consequence for: • Misbehaving or disrupting instruction • Being tardy • Not having homework completed • Not following directions • Not having required supplies in class.

  13. OUT OF COUPONS? • When you run out of coupons, each time a coupon is asked for, teacher detention will be assigned. This detention is from 2:35-3:30 and may be held in my room or in another room. • After 3 detentions, you will get an office referral. • Skipping detention will result in an automatic office referral.

  14. Homework • I will assign about 20 minutes of homework every night. Unless otherwise noted, homework is due the day after it is assigned. • Math Boxes are an extra part of your homework if you do not finish the assigned math box in class. • Homework is due and checked each day at the beginning of class. • If homework is not completed, a coupon will be taken and a zero will be given for the • assignment.

  15. Grading Homework • Homework is graded 95% of the time using • √ which is recorded as 100%, • √- which is recorded as a 70% • - which is recorded as a 50% • 0 which is recorded as a 0%

  16. Tardiness • If you aren’t in the classroom by the time the tardy bell rings, a coupon will be taken. • When you are out of coupons, detention will be assigned.

  17. I can’t wait to get started!
