  1. Persuasion Is All Around You Today we will be exploring the art of persuasion, and the various delivery methods we see every day. Sometimes when you believe in something, you want others to believe in it also, so you might try to change their minds. What word do we use to describe trying to convince another person of our beliefs/opinions?

  2. Ways To Persuade Others: • 1) Make a claim • 2) Use a big name • 3) Use numbers or facts (Logos) • 4) Appeal to emotions (Pathos) • 5) Seem trustworthy (Ethos) • 6) Build urgency (Kairos) • 7) Use studies and research

Today You Will Have to Persuade Me • Today you will be working together in groups to create a persuasive piece that you will present to the rest of the class. • Each team will need to choose a recorder (someone to write the piece) and a speaker to present your essay (either one person or the entire group can present to the class). • You will have fifteen minutes to write your persuasive piece.

What Are You Writing About? • Each group will write a mini essay persuading me, the teacher, why I should give their group members five extra points on their lowest grade. • Your essay can be serious or playful. • You must include at least three reasons/examples to support your argument. • Use as many persuasive techniques as you can/want.
