  1. INSTITUTE OF APPLIED & COMPUTATIONAL MATHEMATICSFOUNDATION OF RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGYCRETE-HELLAS CONTRIBUTION OF IACM/FORTH IN PHASE C OF MEASURE 2.1 - Kokkinos Pyrgos shoreline evolution trend - Research solutions Al. Pantazis (pantazis_al@yahoo.gr) N. A. Kampanis (kampanis@iacm.forth.gr), Th. V. Karambas (karambas@marine.aegean.gr),

  2. KOKKINOS PYRGOS COAST Comparison between Dossier de Candidature M2.1 and work done until now. • OK Bibliographical investigation of numerical models. • OK Solutions testing with beach nourishment and brakewaters.

  3. N KOKKINOS PYRGOS COAST Current status: Wave induced current velocities for West direction winds.

  4. Initial coastline Evolution trend N • S and SW winds Accretion in the bottom of the jetties • W winds Erosion 1km east from lee jetty KOKKINOS PYRGOS COAST Current status - Coast evolution trend (sequence of S, SW and W waves) (S and SW winds NW currents) (W winds SE currents)

  5. KOKKINOS PYRGOS COAST • Solutions under investigation • Beach nourishment with submerged breakwaters

  6. KOKKINOS PYRGOS COAST Hs contours for South direction winds • Wave propagation behind breakwaters and partial reflection

  7. N KOKKINOS PYRGOS COAST Wave induced current velocities for South direction winds with the submerged breakwaters.

  8. N KOKKINOS PYRGOS COAST Wave induced current velocities for South - West direction winds with the submerged breakwaters.

  9. N KOKKINOS PYRGOS COAST Wave induced current velocities for West direction winds with the submerged breakwaters.

  10. Initial coastline Evolution trend N KOKKINOS PYRGOS COAST Solution 1 - Coast evolution trend (sequence of S, SW and W waves) • Erosion control with accretion in the area of the structures. • But erosion trend at about 500m east from the port.

  11. KOKKINOS PYRGOS COAST Other combinations of solutions are running CONCLUSIONS • West winds are prevail. • Possible construction in the future of big trade port in the area. • It is possible to examine various scenarios concerning construction of coastal structures and beach nourishment. • The sand for the nourishment will be taken from the accretion areas. • More combinations of submerged breakwaters will be tested.
