Professional Learning Communities • Working collaboratively to assess STUDENT DATA • Developing COMMON FORMATIVE ASSESSMENTS • Focus on Student Learning!
A Professional Learning Community is NOT: • A program to be implemented • A package of reforms to be adopted • A step-by-step recipe for change • A sure-fire system borrowed from another school • One more thing to add to an already cluttered school agenda
A Professional Learning Community IS: • A reduction of isolation for teachers • Shared responsibility for the total development of student success • Data driven • Commitment to the mission & goals of the school & district • A culture shift
Planning for High Performing PLC’s • Top Down & Bottom Up • District Training • DuFour Conference • Visits to schools that have full implementation • Janel Keating • Scheduling Work Sessions • Inclusion Training
LGSD School Board Board Chair, Merle Comfort
La Grande School District Mission Statement • In the La Grande School District we believe every student can learn and deserves a safe, motivating, and challenging school environment. • Therefore, it is the mission of the La Grande School District to provide a learning environment where educators work collaboratively to ensure that each student maximizes their learning. To accomplish this mission we will use best practices and data to ask and answer: • 1. What do we want our students to learn? • 2. How will we know what students have learned? • 3. How do we respond when they don't learn? • 4. How do we respond when they do learn?
