  1. Eleven Recorded Resurrection Appearances

  2. Mary Magdalene at the tomb alone. • (John 20:11-18; Mark 16:9-11)

  3. The other women (Matthew 28:1-10; Mark 16:1-8, and Luke 24:1-11)

  4. Simon Peter alone on the day of the • resurrection. (Luke 24:34; 1 Cor. 15:5)

  5. 4. The two disciples on the way to Emmaus on the day of the resurrection, (Luke 24:13-35; Mark 16:12)

  6. 5. The ten disciples (Thomas being absent) and others “with them,” at Jerusalem on the evening of the resurrection day. (John 20:19-24).

  7. 6. The disciples again (Thomas being present) at Jerusalem (Mark 16:14-18; Luke 24:33- 40; John 20:26-80; 1 Cor. 15:5)

  8. 7. The disciples when fishing at the Sea of Galilee. Of this appearance also John 21:1- 23 alone gives an account

  9. 8. The eleven, and above 500 brethren at once, at an appointed place in Galilee (1 Cor. 15:6; compare Matt. 28:16-20).

  10. 9. James, but under what circumstances we are not informed (1 Cor. 15:7).

  11. The apostles immediately before • the ascension. They accompanied him from Jerusalem to Mount Olivet, and there they saw him ascend “till a cloud received him out of their sight” (Mark 16:19; Luke 24:50-52; Acts 1:4-10)

  12. 11. In addition to the above, there is Christ's manifestation of himself to Paul at Damascus, who speaks of it as an appearance of the risen Savior (Acts 9:3-9, 17; 1 Cor. 15:8; 9:1).

  13. 12. It is implied in the words of Luke (Acts 1:3) that there may have been other appearances of which we have no record.

  14. Great Commission: Matt. 28:17-20; Mark 16:15-20— 14 Later He appeared to the eleven as they sat at the table; and He rebuked their unbelief and hardness of heart , because they did not believe those who had seen Him after He had risen. 15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.

  15. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will take up serpents;

  16. and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” 19 So then, after the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God.

  17. 20 And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen.

  18. Immediate Instructions Were: Luke 24:45-48— ” 45 And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.46 Then He said to them, “Thus it is written,

  19. and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, 47 and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 And you are witnesses of these things.

  20. 49 Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”

  21. The Holy Spirit is The Game Changer: John 14:15-20— 15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments. 16 And I will pray to the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—

  22. 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. 19 “A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also.

  23. 20 At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you.

  24. How can His story become your story? You must believe that Jesus is the Son of God and that He died for your sins and seek His forgiveness of your sins

  25. How can His story become your story? You must believe that Christ has risen to resurrect life into you; to make your spirit that was or is dead come alive

  26. How can His story become your story? You must receive His baptism in the Holy Spirit to do all that He has called you to do

  27. How can His story become your story? Use your testimony as a tool to bring others to Christ and resurrection power

  28. Hebrews 12:1-3— Do you see what this means—all these pioneers who blazed the way, all these veterans cheering us on? It means we’d better get on with it. Strip down, start running—and never quit! No extra spiritual fat, no parasitic sins. Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it.

  29. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed—that exhilarating finish in and with God—he could put up with anything along the way: Cross, shame, whatever. And now he’s there, in the place of honor, right alongside God. When you find yourselves flagging in your faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of hostility he plowed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls!
