  4. The Missing Body Jn.20:1-10 v. 9 “For as yet they knew not the scripture, that He must rise again from the dead.” Ps. 16:9-11 “not leave my soul in hades” John 2:19-22 “destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” Luke 24:5-8 “The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.”

  5. The Missing Body Jn.20:1-10 v. 10 “Then the disciples went away again unto their own home.” Mary, Mother of Jesus, was at the home of John Jn. 19:26 Woman, behold your son ! Jn. 19:27 “Then He said to the disciple, "Behold your mother!" And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home.”

  6. Where was the Body ? Did the gardener remove it ? Mary Magdalene thought it was possible Jn. 20:15 “Sir, if You have carried Him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take Him away.”

  8. Where was the Body ? Did the enemies take it away ? • No • They wanted it to remain in the Tomb - Matt. 27:62-66 • They would later have produced it when the apostles were preaching about His resurrection

  9. Where was the Body ? Did Jesus just faint ? • No • They pierced His side - Jn. 19:34 • Centurion signed death certificate - Mk. 15:44-45 Was it a hallucination ?

  10. Where was the Body ? He Arose Jn. 2:19-22 “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up." Then the Jews said, "It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will You raise it up in three days?" But He was speaking of the temple of His body.” Jn. 20 - Open tomb - Empty grave - Discarded grave clothes

Basis of Christian Hope The apostles lost hope at His death – Lk.24:19-21 Regained it at His Resurrection – 1 Pet. 1:3-4 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.”

  17. What does the ResurrectionMean ? 6. By Which We Are Saved “There is also an antitype which now saves us—baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ” 1 Pet. 3:21

  18. The Resurrection of Jesus • No human eye saw the rising of Jesus from the dead. • His disciples and friends saw the empty grave and they saw the resurrected Jesus. • He was the firstfruits of the resurrection – 1 Cor. 15:20 • - The beginning • - As He is risen so certainly shall we rise
