Day One Ideas • What we’ll do today • Receive Syllabus • Find who I am and who you are • 15- to 20-second commercial • Such as: Major, last book read, best movie seen this summer, hobbies, languages spoken, travels this summer, etc. • (HAND IN TO ME AT END OF CLASS) • So, you want to be in advertising: http://www.gecko9.com/whenigrowup.html • Set semester goals and your expectations • Fog or clear cards • Tent cards • Seating chart and attendance sheet
Housekeeping • What can I do to help you succeed? Suggestions? • Priorities: Family emergencies come first.
Dos and Don’ts • Put Cell phones on silent or stun or off • Nothing allowed that will disturb others • Music, etc. • Bring the tools you will need to class • No food or drink in this room • Explanations of what I will look for and grade on • Being able to ID Strategy and think strategically • Evaluate ideas and ads • Matching ad executions to copy and market strategy • Attention to detail • What will hurt • Sloppy work (Grammar, spelling, structure) • Borrowed work • Inattention in class • Not following directions (45 sec 30-sec cmml.) • Absences (see attendance policy) • Can re-do assignments not tests • I will notify if content of day may have religious or moral items and you can excuse yourself from that part of class
