Place Names & Geographic Terms • Capitalize names of regions of a country or of the world. • The Civil War was fought between the North and the South. • Don’t capitalize words that indicate compass directions or general locations. • Starbucks is two miles south of here.
Titles of Books, Magazines, & Newspapers • Please put these titles in italics or underline them. • The first, last, and principal words are capitalized. • Do not cap articles, conjunctions, and prepositions unless they are the first or last words of the title. • A Walk in the Shadow of the Moon • The Catcher in the Rye
Names of Seasons • Do not capitalize the names of seasons. • The first day of spring is officially March 21. • I will be taking night classes in the fall.
Trade Names • Capitalize product trade names but not the type of product. • We have a Canon printer at home. • I like Campbell’s chicken noodle soup.
Words Before Figures • Capitalize words before figures with the following exceptions: • line • note • page • paragraph • size • Read Chapter 7 for homework • Please copy the notes on page 9, lines 1 through 10.
