  2. Group Work. Exercise One. • Write a list of bullet points each. These should detail any experiences or interests that you have, including work experience, study, hobbies etc. • Compare your lists. Do you have anything in common that might form the basis of an idea for a project? • Narrow this down to two or three topic areas.

  3. Group work. Exercise Two. SWOT Analysis. Conduct a SWOT analysis for each topic area you have chosen. strengths Weaknesses Threats. Opportunities

  4. Group work 3. • On the Basis of the last exercise try to formulate a provisional research question. • Phrase this in a number of ways and think about the implications of the wording of the question. • How might the wording of your research question impact on your research design?

  5. Group work. Exercise Four. SWOT Analysis. Conduct a SWOT analysis for the Provisional Research question you have chosen. strengths Weaknesses Threats. Opportunities

  6. Group work. Exercise Five. Personal SWOT Analysis. Conduct a SWOT analysis for yourself. Try and Think about your own personal strengths and weaknesses. This Should help you decide who might play various roles in your project. strengths Weaknesses Threats. Opportunities

  7. Exercise 6. Thinking About the Literature. • What research areas/ fields/ sociological perspectives might be central to your research? • What research areas/ fields/ sociological perspectives might be relevant, but less central? • Might the literature from any other disciplines be of value to you?

  8. Homework. • Draft ethical proposal form.
