Thus, when someone says they feel tight, or have pain with movement, they are experiencing the binding effect of scar tissue. .   2. Detailed Muscle Structure Close inspection of a muscle, reveals it is made up of smaller and smaller components. The inner workings of the bicep muscle first show the muscle fasciculi, followed by the smaller muscle fibers, followed by the smallest component called the myofibrils. The myofibrils are the cells that make muscle contraction possible. It would take hundreds of these to make up the thickness of one strand of hair, which can be viewed only under a microscope.

  3. Fascia Surrounds Everything Fascia, a thin layer of another major classification of tissue, weaves its way around every organ, muscle and tendon. Fascia is likened to a flexible skeleton that connects the top of your head to the tips of your toes to everything else. Scar tissue can bind fascia to muscle, tendons, ligaments and muscle Most scar tissue cannot be felt by the human hand and when left untreated, is responsible for much of the ongoing complaints and permanent restrictions that occur after injury. Without the fascia system, the human body would lack form.

  5. Scar Tissue and its Effects Unfortunately, scar tissue can adhere fascia to muscle…impairing (range of motion) and producing pain. Tendons and ligaments also are surrounded with fascia and can be affected in the same manner. Fascial restrictions (scar tissue and adhesions) left untreated can prevent fluid movement. Fascial adhesions (scar tissue) is the single most responsible factor for recidivism..

  6. Graston Technique is non-invasive , drug free Graston Technique breaks down and releases scar tissue. The technique utilizes six patented stainless steel instruments, uniquely shaped to treat different areas of the body. Graston instruments vibrate when contact is made with fibrotic tissue allowing both the patient and clinician to “feel” what is going on under the skin. Patients are able to remain at work, engage in everyday activity during treatment. Most patients have a positive response by visits 3 or 4 and are released from care between visits 10 and 11 with good to complete recovery.

Recidivism Bound Tissue As the Graston Technique instrument slides across bound fibers, it pulls the fibers to the side and releases them- (which feels much like going over a speed bump (as noted in slide 7) With treatment, this process generally will reduce or eliminated the adhered fibers, restoring function and eliminating the pain associated with it. Much of the recidivism associated with injury and treatment is a direct result of the scar tissue which remains after injury.
