Wind power, as an alternate to burning fossil fuels, is huge, renewable, cosmopolitan, and clean, produces no greenhouse gas emissions during operation, consumes no water, and uses little land. Wind turbines are devices that convert the wind’s K.E. into electric power. Wind turbines operate on a simple principle. The rotor is connected to the shaft, which spins a generator to make electricity. The wind systems that exist over the earth’s surface are a result of variations in atmospheric pressure. These are successively thanks to the variations in solar heating. Warm air rises and cooler air rushes in to need its place. This project addresses not only the facility demand–supply gap within the state of Gujarat, but also assists in sustainable growth, conservation of resources, and reduction of greenhouse emission emissions into the atmosphere. The project contributes to an approximate reduction of 101,234 tons of CO2 emissions per annum by displacing the same amount of electricity generation at the grid. In the absence of this project, the equivalent amount of electricity would are generated from conventional power plants supporting fossil fuels. With the implementation of the project, the local communities are benefited with employment, health, education, improved infrastructure, socio-economic development etc. in the region. India is the fifth largest wind generation producer within the earth after Germany, USA, Denmark and Spain with a wind generation capacity of 1870 MW. About 11.3 billion units of electricity are fed into varied state grids from these projects. The Wind Resource Assessment Programmer (WRAP) carried out in India is to assess the wind potential. This program is being implemented by state nodal agencies and C-Wet through the Wind Energy Survey Project. However, there's an opportunity of upper wind speeds at heights on the brink of 100 mtrs. Under the state NRSE Policy-2006, the govt. is keen to supply all support for fixing of wind generation projects. There is the possibility of sufficient wind generation potential being available at higher heights within the State, which can be harnessed with the development in low speed wind generation technology. There is immediate necessity for wind mapping within the State to assess and exploit the available potential. The state will support such programs. Self-identified projects during this sector shall be promoted by allowing private developers to line up wind generation projects on first come first served basis on the idea.

  2. PEDA in its recent initiatives to develop the wind energy, has signed MoUs with two major wind power companies for wind resource assessment and on completion of the wind speed assessments, fixing of wind generation projects within the state.
