Formation of urea • One of the main reasons for the production of urine is to remove urea • Urea is produced in the liver from excess amino acids • Amino acids cannot be stored so any that cannot be used at that moment have to be dealt with • Some can be transaminated to produce a different amino acid • The rest are deaminated to produce a keto acid and ammonia • The keto acid is fed into Krebs cycle and the ammonia is converted into urea by the ornithine cycle
