  2. Hit up these spots if you’re looking for a stroll to walk lunch off or a hike with some bite, here are five of the best trails in Barcelona or fill up your lungs with the crisp air of Montserrat: The Bunkers Del Carmel Located to the west of the city, The Bunkers del Carmel is one of Barcelona’s best-kept secrets. Visited and known only by locals and few more adventurous travelers, the Bunkers del Carmel was used during the Spanish Civil War but are today abandoned. If you truly want to admire the panoramic views of the Catalan city, then this is the perfect spot. Hop on the metro or either the Guinardó I Hospital de Sant Pau, it will leave you within good walking distance to access the bunkers. Tibidabo Mountain Tibidabo Mountain is home to one of Europe’s oldest amusement parks, the Parc Del Tibidabo and is amongst the most famous of Barcelona’s nine surrounding hills. Easily recognized by the church which sits atop it and lights up at night, the hill dominates Barcelona’s skyline as you look to the west. As you take a walk through the top of Tibidabo, it will take you through wooded areas where you can relish on the spectacular views of Barcelona. Start from the up-market neighborhood of Sarrià, up through the Avenida de Vallvidrera and the Carrer de Santpedor.

  3. The Carretera de Les Aigues Located on the aforementioned mount Tibidabo, the Carretera de Les Aigues is most popular amongst walkers and cyclists in Barcelona. Often called Road of the Waters, which it got itself named after the pipes which once ran along the route delivering water to nearby homes. It offers great panoramas of the entire city and the route can be accessed to the south just behind the Hospital de Sant Joan de Déu in Esplugues de Llobregat. Montjuïc Montjuïc is home to the Olympic Stadium, the Joan Miró Foundation, the historic Montjuïc Castle as well as numerous public gardens. It is also the smallest of Barcelona’s surrounding hills and there are many ways to enjoy a walk through Montjuïc and plenty of stops to be made along the way. Kick start your hiking in Poble-Sec through the Grec Gardens, it is one of the nicest trails following the Laribel Stairs up to the level of Miró Foundation. From there walk behind the castle and you will stumble upon a casual outdoor restaurant open at weekends. This is the perfect place to have a rest before winding your way back down to Plaça Espanya. Costa Brava Stretching right the way to up the French border, Costa Brava is the jewel in the crown of the Catalan coastline. Popular for its towering cliffs, hidden coves and untouched fishing villages this is where the Pyrenees meet the Mediterranean.
