  2. Who Uses the Service? • ECE Registry sends us all inquiries for BC ECE licences • if applicant acquired ECE training outside of BC • ICES sends us possible candidates who contact them but don’t have formal transcripts for them to assess • Persons who have acquired work/ volunteer experiences in the field (more than three years in more than one setting in the field) • We get practitioners from a wide variety of philosophical perspectives

  3. The Process The process of collecting and generating evidence of learning is known as portfolio development. Candidates will work through a self-directed study manual to create a portfolio of prior learning. A Mentor-Assessor can also assist a candidate in using the Manual. While examining their work experience, candidates identify learning that meets contemporary professional standards and levels of competency for their field of practice. Recognition as competent will be awarded if there is a strong match between the demonstration of actual learning and the learning areas of the license. If candidates are unable to document learning or to link their learning to the standards of contemporary field practice, or if there are gaps in their learning, candidates will be assessed as not yet competent and may have the opportunity for top-up learning and re-assessment.
