  1. Mini-Series—A Working Faith!Part 13-Humility is the Answer to Impotent ChristianityJames 4:7-10

  2. James 4:1-6 • 7 Therefore SUBMIT to God. RESIST the devil and he will flee from you. 8 DRAW near to God and He will draw near to you. CLEANSE your hands, you sinners; and PURIFY your hearts, you double-minded. 9 LAMENT and MOURN and WEEP! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10 HUMBLE yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up. • James 4:7–10 • 10 Aorist, Active Imperatives calling for IMMEDIATE action!

  3. SUBMITTO THE LORD’S LEADERSHIP IN YOUR LIFE • SUBMIT-ὑποτάσσομαι (hypotassomai)-to put into subjection, to place yourself under, to obey • RESIST- ἀνθίστημι (anthistēmi) – to be hostile towards, to rebel, to set one’s self against The path of the believer is a daily commitment and submission of one’s will to God and His Kingdom and a persistent rebellion against Satan and his kingdom.

  4. PURSUEA RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR GOD • DRAW- ἐγγίζω (engizō)-come near, approach, spatially Like any other relationships we are called to pursue a relationship with our Savior and God. To draw near to Him is to spend time with Him and invite Him to be a part of every area of your life.

  5. REPENTOF YOUR UNGODLY UNION WITH SIN • CLEANSE- καθαρίζω (katharizō)-ceremonial cleansing with water • PURIFY- ἁγνίζω (hagnizō)-to purify, moral virtue, ceremonial cleansing • LAMENT- ταλαιπωρέω (talaipōreō)-to grieve • MOURN- πενθέω (pentheō)-be sad (1 Corinthians 5:3, Mark 16:10) • WEEP- κλαίω (klaiō)-to weep, cry, wail, ritual mourning (Mark 5:38-39) The Christian life is one of daily repentance and as such should be a life where we are broken to the core because of our sins much like the sinful woman whom Jesus forgave in Luke 7:36-50.

  6. Luke 7:36-50 36 Then one of the Pharisees asked Him to eat with him. And He went to the Pharisee’s house, and sat down to eat. 37 And behold, a woman in the city who was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at the table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of fragrant oil, 38 and stood at His feet behind Him weeping; and she began to wash His feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head; and she kissed His feet and anointed them with the fragrant oil.

  7. Luke 7:36-50 39 Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he spoke to himself, saying, “This Man, if He were a prophet, would know who and what manner of woman this is who is touching Him, for she is a sinner.” 40 And Jesus answered and said to him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” So he said, “Teacher, say it.” 41 “There was a certain creditor who had two debtors. One owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.

  8. Luke 7:36-50 42 And when they had nothing with which to repay, he freely forgave them both. Tell Me, therefore, which of them will love him more?” 43 Simon answered and said, “I suppose the one whom he forgave more.” And He said to him, “You have rightly judged.” 44 Then He turned to the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman?

  9. Luke 7:36-50 I entered your house; you gave Me no water for My feet, but she has washed My feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head. 45 You gave Me no kiss, but this woman has not ceased to kiss My feet since the time I came in. 46 You did not anoint My head with oil, but this woman has anointed My feet with fragrant oil. 47 Therefore I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little.”

  10. HUMBLEYOURSELF BEFORE YOUR MASTER • HUMBLE-ταπεινόω (tapeinoō)-make low, embarrass, humble The path to a life of significance is paved through the acts of realizing one’s one insignificance apart from the significant one, Jesus Christ. As James says submit to Him, Pursue Him, Repent of You and Humble Yourself under His mighty hand!
