Keys to interpreting political cartoons • Understanding the issues of the day • Recognizing symbols and caricatures used by the artist • Using the captions or symbols to determine the viewpoint of the cartoonist • In other words; How does the cartoonist feel about the issue they are drawing? Are they for or against ________?

  3. Post WWII World • Be able to describe what was going on in the United States and the world in the years immediately following WWII • Look over Sections 1 and 2 Chapter 17

  6. The 1940s and 1950s Culture(look over Section 2 Chapter 18 and pages 481-483 • Be able to explain the major cultural influences/events of this time period • Be able to analyze how some viewed this time period as the “good ole’ days” while others rebelled against the norms of society
