  2. What is it? • Hunger in America • It is all of the families that do not have enough money to eat. • In 2005 there were 1,345 poor people. • There is 9 percent of people with out work.

  3. Who is affected by it? • The families are being affected. • There are so many people that are being affected it affects not one member of the family but everyone in the family. • The children • The parents • The grandparents • Aunts, Uncles, cousins.

  4. St. Mary’s Food Bank • St. Mary’s Food Bank was the first food bank to help families out. • They are a non profit organization. • They serve two thirds of Arizona. • They distributed more than 72 million pound of food in 2009-2010. • That is 275,000 meals per day.

Facts about Hunger in Arizona • 800,027 Arizonans live in poverty • 1 in 7 residents of the state’s total population • 312,966 Arizona children under age 18 live in poverty • representing 1 in 5 of Arizona’s children. • In Arizona, 1 in 12 people, age 65 and older, live in poverty • By 2010, experts estimate one million Arizonans will live in poverty. • Every 3.6 seconds someone will die of starvation and over 4 million people will die due to starvation. • http://firstfoodbank.org/hunger101/idea.html
