Your ID badge will be required 24/7 for access to the physician lounge (within the MOB), patient units and all non-public hospital areas. • Security officers will be available every Wednesday evening to take your picture for your new ID badge at 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at West (go to the telephone operators office) or at East (go to ED). 17. TriPoint Patient Care Introduces Decentralized Nursing Unit + Universal Bed Design = New Model of Nursing Care Delivery • Decentralized Nursing Unit: Patient Care Units at TriPoint will not have central nursing stations. Instead, there will be windowed alcoves between every two patient rooms that allow the nurse to observe the patient from just outside the room.

  18. Patient Care Model • TriPoint will have one 32-bed Critical Care Unit equipped to care for patients from the ICU to Stepdown level of acuity. All of these patient rooms are equipped for dialysis treatment to be performed at the bedside. There will be a 32-bed Surgical telemetry and a 32-bed medical telemetry. The goal of universal beds is to accommodate a broader range of patient acuity, allowing patients to remain in the same room from admission to discharge, minimizing transfers between nursing units.

  19. Patient Care Model • To gain all the advantages of this decentralized model, TriPoint will utilize new technology to ensure timely communication with physicians, nursing and other caregivers. Each caregiver will carry an IP phone to make and receive phone calls, decreasing overhead paging on the unit. Alerts from the nurse call system or monitors can be forwarded to the patient’s nurse via these phones. • The list of patients on the unit along with the caregiver and his/her contact number can be viewed on any unit PC using the “white board” function of the nurse call system selected for TriPoint. • Finally, new Drager monitors will be networked allowing physicians to access monitor data remotely.

  20. Additional Information • Physician work areas will be available on each floor/unit. • Each nurse will communicate with you regarding each patient through the Vocera system. • Docking stations will be available in the nursing alcoves for your laptops. • Secretaries will work from carts (calves) rather than from a central location. • Physicians are welcome to observe our practice day “Day in the Life” at TriPoint on September 23, 2009, during which multiple patient care scenarios will be played out.
