  8. GTA Growth Planning • York, UofT and Ryerson have been working for 24 months to identify • key issues and • develop high-level, joint responses • Mid-range estimates 40,000 additional students • 26,000 in humanities and social sciences • 14,000 in science-related programs

GTA Growth Planning – UofT and Ryerson • Solution will matrix solution – no one university will accommodate all growth • Ryerson’s Strategic Plan – 8,000 students • 4,000 humanities and social sciences • 4,000 applied science • UofT’s Strategic Plan – 5,000 students • all enrolments in health and life science • Conclusion – GTA universities can accept all science growth

Non-GTA Universites • No growth • UWO – Queen’s • McMaster • A number of institutions have developed satellite campuses to accommodate growth • Lakehead in Orillia • 1,500 students (+1,000 students from current) • arts & science, education, business, social work • expanding into health, environmental studies

  11. Non-GTA Universities • Waterloo’s plan is to grow its way out of the budget issue. • Significant growth with focus on graduate. Up to 5 Campuses • Cambridge (architecture, engineering), • Stratford (digital media & global business) • Huntsville (environmental & ecological sustainability) • 2nd site in Kitchener (medicine & pharmacy) • planning a campus in Dubai

Non-GTA Univeristies • Wilfred Laurier • Growing to “balance its books: • Brantford – full suite of programs; 4,000 students by 2012 (+2,200 over current) • Milton • Guelph/Humber • Toronto – 8 joint college university programs primarily of an applied nature • 3,000 students (200 over current)

GTA Colleges • Growth in the college system has increased over the last decade • Growth in GTA colleges has offset declines elsewhere • New funding formula rewards growth with premium funding • Review of GTA colleges plans find • Expansion into Baccalaureate programming • 3% to 5% growth (about 10,000 FTEs) • Partnership with Universities
