  1. Welcome Back to Advisory! Week of August 19, 2013

  2. What is Advisory? • This is a grade specific class that meets every day for 18 minutes. The bulletin will be read each day. • Monday and Wednesday are advisory days. On these days you will be involved in grade level and school-wide activities. • Tuesday and Thursday are tutorial days. These days are devoted to silent reading, studying for classes, or completing assignments. • Friday is the catch up day or Fun Friday – depending on the weeks’ events and progress.

  3. Don’t forget - this class does count! • YES!! This is a “Credit” or “No Credit” class. • Good participation and regular attendance are the two ways to ensure you will pass advisory. • This class adheres to the 15-day absence policy, so don’t cut class! “NC” (no credit) on your progress report or report card will calculate into your grade point average as an “F.” An “NC” grade could make you ineligible to participate in extra-curricular activities. • At the end of the semester if you fulfill the requirements for this class, you will earn one credit towards graduation.

  4. The topics will be new! • The focus for each grade is a little different. Here are the themes for the four grade levels: • 9th Grade: Make the Most of High School • 10th Grade: Careers - Who am I and what do I want to be? • 11th Grade: Planning For My Future • 12th Grade: Life After High School

  5. Let’s start the year off GREAT! • Today is the day we discuss the tools necessary to succeed in school. • Take out your daily planner. Did you write down your assignments from your first class? You should do this every period, every day. • All students are required to have a planner, binder, paper, and pencil at school every day. Do you have these tools? If not, visit the counseling office and they will help you get what you need.

  6. Remember….. • Be on-time to class. Your punctuality tells everyone in the room about your level of commitment to school. • Don’t get distracted. Turn off your phone; leave your iPod at home; and take advantage of your free education. After high school, you will find your education can be very EXPENSIVE. • ASK QUESTIONS! The most successful people in the world will all tell you that it’s smart to ask questions.

  7. Senior Contract • You will take this home, get it signed and return by Friday, August 23, 2013. • Please pass out each students prefilled contract. • Read the top 2 bullets aloud (1. & 2.). • Each student should review bullet 3 (3.). • Students, sign your name now…..then take this home for your parent’s/guardian’s signature.

  8. What are your questions?
