Troop 589 Service Project BHAG • Create permanent home for Troop 589 • Assist Charter Organization goal of providing meeting space • Leverage troop & community resources • Minimal cost to Jonathan Association • Provide opportunities to boys to learn (merit badges) • Provide multiple service project opportunities • Integrate into Jonathan community
BHAG (Bee-Hag) • Big Hairy Audacious Goal • Coined by James C. Collins and Jerry I. Porras in “Built to Last”, a study of 18 visionary and comparison companies. Used extensively in “Good to Great” • Visionary organizations formulate a core ideology that is based on two parts; • to stimulate progress and • preserve the core • BHAG’s are developed to stimulate progress • Catalytic mechanisms “force” action by the organization to turn goals into results
BHAG • Longer Term 2-3 years or more (large organizations can be 10-20 years) • Takes many smaller goals to be accomplished before BHAG is accomplished • Simple, easy, and to the point • Connects with the core values • Highly focused, tangible, and energizing
