This study by Chris Bonneau and Damon Cann examines the impact of partisanship on voter decision-making in judicial elections. Without a national voter sample, little is known about how partisanship affects choices. The researchers used three CCES modules to ask vote choice questions, analyzing 456 respondents with a design-adjusted crosstab probit model.

The Problem: • No existing national sample of voters in judicial elections (limited to single-state studies) • Little is known about whether partisanship effects voters’ decision making in judicial elections • Questions swaps allowed us to ask vote choice questions on 3 CCES modules. • Not all respondents lived in states with judicial elections • Not everyone votes • We observe multiple vote choices per voter in some states.
