  4. Christians are Oppressed • Rome was not tolerant to Christians • Christians would not make sacrifices to Roman Gods • Had to hide • Nero blamed Christians for problems • Died as martyrs

  5. Joining the Church • Had to be baptized • Members were equal, male or female • At first women worked as teachers and administrators • Eventually, only men took high roles
