  2. Use Your Four Wheel If you have four-wheel drive, engage it as soon as you get off pavement, even before you think you may need it.

  3. Easy On the Breaks Limit the pressure on the brakes when off-roading. Pushing too hard will throw the weight forward and send you into a slide.

  4. Know Your Throttle Have a sensitive touch when using the throttle-brace your heel, use the ball of your foot an pay close attention not to use it too much or too little.

  5. Using Your Feet Practice using your left foot on the brake and right on the throttle with an automatic transmission. It will give you more control and quicker response time.

  7. Steer With Care Minimize your steering input and steer in small increments. Always keep your thumbs on the outside of the steering wheel in case of a sudden jerk from uneven terrain.
