FIRST LEGO LEAGUE • WHAT IS FLL? • FIRST LEGO League is a robotics program for 9 to 16 year olds which is designed to get children excited about science and technology -- teaching them valuable employment and life skills. • THE FLL FOCUS IS: • Robotics & Computer Programs • Apply math, science, engineering concepts • Critical thinking, team-building, & presentation skills • FIRST LEGO LEAGUE

  2. First lego league HAS 3 COMPONENTS: Participants learn that friendly competition and mutual gain are not separate goals, and that helping one another is the foundation of teamwork. Teams build and program an autonomous robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS technology to score points in 2.5-minute matches on a themed playing field. Teams explore an actual problem that today's scientists and engineers are trying to solve, develop an innovative solutionto that problem, and share their findings.

FIRST LEGO LEAGUE • 2011 CHALLENGE IS FOOD FACTOR • QUESTIONS TEAMS WILL PONDER/RESEARCH: • Have you ever thought about how your food stays fresh? • Have you ever thought about who invented these things? • Have you ever thought about how your food is protected from microscopic attacks? • Have you ever thought about where your food comes from and how it stays safe to eat?

FIRST LEGO LEAGUE • TEAMS: • DIVISION I ~ GRADES 4-6 & DIVISION II ~ GRADES 7-9 • TEAMS OF 5-7 MEMBERS, • PRACTICE • 1-2 TIMES/WK, STARTS WEEK OF SEPT. 20TH • TIMES & DATES DETERMINED BY COACHES • WILL BE AT MMS • TOURNAMENTS: • MUST BE ABLE TO MAKE REGIONAL TOURNAMENT • LATE NOVEMBER OR EARLY DECEMBER • POTENTIAL STATE TOURNAMENT IN JANUARY

FIRST LEGO LEAGUE • COACHES: • 1-2 COACHES PER TEAM IS BEST • ENGINEERING & TECHNICAL STRENGTHS • ORGANIZATIONAL & STUDENT-MANAGEMENT STRENGTHS • TRAINING IS AVAILABLE FOR CHALLENGE OR TECHNICAL SKILLS • NEED TO COMPLETE BACKGROUND CHECK • PARENTS: • SUPPORT COACHES & STUDENTS • RESPECT LEARNING PROCESS & FLL PROGRAM • MEET LOGISTICAL REQUIREMENTS
