  8. Reliability • Series - together & interdependently • one failure = system failure • failures are independent • Max. system reliability = least reliable component. In reality most systems are less reliable than the worst component. Ex: 100 components, each .99 = system .365

  9. Reliability • Parallel: Components in parallel do the same function. They provide a backup for each other. Adding components increases reliability. • EX: 4 components in parallel, each is .70 , the system is .992.
