The most usual one is the slaves who were chained together and had to move by dragging one foot at one time. Merengue as a two beat music and since the footwork is fairly similar to walking, it's a very simple dance to master. Music: Merengue is played 2/4. The dual sided drum is played on one side with a stick to a solid syncopation to mark the beats. Saxophones and guitars are also very popular tools utilized in the music. Dance: Merengue footwork is very simple to know as it is really a simple two beat movement ("left, right") using the bodyweight being transferred between the thighs. The top body stays fairly directly while the buttocks proceed with the fat change. The Merengue framework is quite a bit smaller (closer) in contrast to Salsa. Having said that, Merengue is usually led with one (right) hands over the back. But in open hold, arms are often completely extended out in the place of sustaining a closer lshaped frame.
