  3. After receiving a plaintiff's complaint, a defendant must respond with a pleading called an answer. • In the answer, the defendant must address each allegation in the complaint. • Some jurisdictions allow defendants to make a general denial of all allegations in the complaint. The defendant may also raise counterclaims

  4. A paralegal and an attorney perform different tasks from one another. The significant difference between a paralegal and an attorney is that an attorney is licensed to practice law, while a paralegal is not licensed and prohibited from practicing law

  5. After all the evidence has been given and summed up in court, the judge will ask the jury to retire to the jury room to consider their verdict. During this time you must not talk to anyone about the case except other jury members. All discussion must take place in the privacy of the jury room and when all jurors are present.

  6. A general civil lawsuit starts when the plaintiff files 2 forms. A Summons is a notice that says there’s a lawsuit. A Complaint is a form that says how the person was hurt, who hurt them and how much the damages are.

  7. Jurisdiction can mean more than one thing. The Court has to have “jurisdiction” over the defendant. This means that the Court has the right to hear and decide a case for the person you are suing. In general, you have to file your lawsuit where the injury happened, or where the contract was supposed to happen, or where the defendant lives.
