  2. Circulatory system – Carries oxygen and nutrients throughout the body • Made up of the heart and blood vessels

  3. Parts of the circulatory system • Glue into pg 72 • Find 2 Colors

  4. Artery – carries blood AWAY from the heart • Vein – carries blood TO the heart

  5. Blood cells • 3 types of blood cells: • Red blood cells – Carry oxygen • White blood cells – fight infections, kill viruses and bacteria • Platelets (aka cell fragments) – form blood clots

  6. Blood pressure = the force that the blood exerts on the blood vessels • High blood pressure – too much force is put on the blood vessels and organs and damages them over time

  7. Problems with the circulatory system • Heart attack – a clot forms in an artery that feeds the heart • Stroke – a clot forms in an artery that feeds the brain.
