  1. Dear parents – the following strategy for addition is called Standard Place Value Partitioningand is a strategy that all the children in KAPA WHA (Team 4) need to be able to us with confidence. Year 6’s need to be able to use this strategy with ease as their knowledge and experience should allow for this and our Year 5’s should be able to ease their way into it and become confident with it very quickly.STANDARDPLACE VALUEPARTITIONING

The arrows do not need to be used but if they help your child to solve then please allow

This is where we split (partition) the numbers into 100’s, 10’s and units. 435 + 254 Step 1: (400 + 200 ) + (30 + 50) + (5 + 4) Step 2: 600 + 80 + 9 Step 3: = 689 This is also how it needs to be set out by the children when they show you this strategy for their homework.
