Software Business Competence Project - Empowering IT Education

The Software Business Competence (SBC) project by Oulu Polytechnic, funded by the EU and City of Oulu, aims to enhance software business education and IT learning environment through company collaboration. It focuses on marketing, product development, and entrepreneurship in the Business Information Technology degree program. The Software Product Laboratory supports student projects in web and mobile applications, open source, and agile methods. The project also facilitates entrepreneurship transition and offers counseling services and research facilities.

  1. Software Business Competence -project • Software Business Competence (SBC) is Oulu Polytechnic’s R&D project funded by EU and the City of Oulu. • Started december 2003, duration 3 years. • Goal is to develop software business education and IT-related learning environment in cooperation with companies. The SBC project will also enhance the internationalization of the School of Business Studies. • Staff: 3 lecturers and 2 system support officers.

  2. Software Business Competence -project • Divided into three sectors: 1.Marketing and international relations for the Degree Programme in Business Information Technology (BIT) 2. Laboratory for Software Products 3. Entrepreneurship

Degree Programme in Business Information Technology (BIT) • First enrollment autumn 2004 • Ghana, Nigeria, Kenia, Ethiopia, Morocco, Tansania, Kamerun, Togo, Germany, Bulgaria, Russia, Hungary, Bangladesh, Pakistan, China, Malesia, UK, South-Africa, Finland • Partner universities: • Old partners of KAHA (DIB) • New member states of EU • China • ”Neighbouring area”: Norway, Sweden, Russia

  4. Software Product Laboratory • Target group: Students with software business ideas, BBA thesis, practical training, information technology projects. • Enables e.g. working for a company without placement into the company. • Access right to the laboratory is granted case by case for each project. • Areas of interest: Web- and Mobile Applications, Open Source, Agile Methods.
