  1. Romeo & Juilet Three Types of Love

  2. Essay • There are many types of "love". In the play "Romeo and Juliet" by William Shakespeare the author creates a world in which we view at least three of the many types of love. Though the use of direct reference and effective illustrations (detailed examples) discuss the three main types of love used in Romeo and Juliet. • Use the format we have used all year to write a five paragraph essay.

  3. Unrequited lovebetween Romeo and Rosaline • Unrequited love or one-sided love is love that is not openly reciprocated. The beloved may or may not be aware of the admirer's deep and strong romantic affections.

  4. Unrequited lovebetween Romeo and Rosaline • In the beginning of the play Romeo’s thinks he is in love with Rosaline. • Romeo is infatuated with Roseline. • However, Rosaline does not return Romeo’s affection.

  5. Unrequited loveQuote and explanation • “Why, such love’s transgression. Griefs of mine own lie heavy in my breast, Which thou with propagate to have it pressed (I, i, 192-194)” • Romeo professes his love for Rosaline while talking to Benvolio. • Romeo says that this love for Rosaline sits heavy in his chest. He expresses the sadness he feel by not having his love returned.

  6. Unrequited loveQuote and explanation • “Well, in that hit you miss: She’ll not be hit with Cupid’s arrow; she hath Dian’s wit; and, in strong proof of chastity well arm’d from love’s weak childish bow she lives unharm’d. She will not stay the siege of living terms, Nor bide the encounter of assailing eyes, Nor ope her lap to saint-seducing gold (l. i, 216 – 2 ) • Romeo tells Benvolio that Rosaline refuses to be hit by Cupid’s arrow. Romeo says that she’s as clever as Diana the Roman goddess of virginity and hunting, and shielded by the armor of chastity. She won’t listen to words of love, or let you look at her with loving eyes.

  7. Friendship love Defined(Between Romeo and Mercutio) • Friendship love is when a person is attached to another person by feelings of affection. • Mercutio is Romeo's friend and confidant. Mercutio's concern is always for Romeo and for peace between the two families, the Capulets and the Montagues.

  8. Friendship love quote • Alive in triumph, and Mercutio slain?Away to heaven respective lenity,And fire-eye'd fury be my conduct now! (III.i.123-25)

  9. Friendship love quote explained • The reader can see the love Romeo feels for his friend Mercutio the moment he becomes so furious that Tybalt has killed him and Romeo wants revenge. The significance of Romeo's feelings for revenge is that just a few lines ago he was refusing to fight Tybalt as Romeo knows they are now family through marriage. However, Romeo's feelings for Mercutio and rage over his death become so strong that he momentarily forgets his relationship with Juliet, his new connection to the Capulet family, and even forgets the prince's new law. We especially see Romeo's feelings concerning both Mercutio and his death in the lines:

  10. Friendship love quote explained • Since these lines well portray Romeo's feelings of fury, they also well portray his love for Mercutio. • He’s alive and victorious, and Mercutio’s dead? Enough with mercy and consideration. It’s time for rage to guide my actions. Now, Tybalt, you can call me “villain” the way you did before. Mercutio’s soul is floating right above our heads. He’s waiting for you to keep him company on the way up to heaven. Either you, or I, or both of us have to go with him.

  11. Romantic Love between romeo and Juilet • Romeo and Julietis the most famous love story in the English literary tradition. Love is naturally the play’s dominant and most important theme. The play focuses on romantic love, specifically the intense passion that springs up at first sight between Romeo and Juliet.

  12. Romantic Love Defined(between romeo and Juilet) • Romantic love is when the chemicals in your brain kick in and you feel an emotional high, exhilaration, passion, and elation when you and your lover are together. • The old saying about love being blind truly describes romantic love. Many who are in the midst of romantic love want to be with their lover all the time and can overlook faults, conflict, and abuse.

  13. Romantic LoveqUOTE • Oh, she doth teach the torches to burn bright! It seems she hangs upon the cheek of night Like a rich jewel in an Ethiope’s ear, … I’ll watch her place of stand, And, touching hers, make blessèd my rude hand. Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight! For I ne'er saw true beauty till this night.

  14. Romantic Love Quote Explained • Oh, she shows the torches how to burn bright! She stands out against the darkness like a jeweled earring hanging against the cheek of an African. • When this dance is over, I’ll see where she stands, and then I’ll touch her hand with my rough and ugly one. Did my heart ever love anyone before this moment? My eyes were liars, then, because I never saw true beauty before tonight. (2,2)

  15. Romantic LoveqUOTE • But, soft! what light through yonder window breaks? It is the east, and Juliet is the sun.Arise, fair sun, and kill the envious moon,Who is already sick and pale with grief,That thou her maid art far more fair than she. (2.2.1)

  16. Romantic Love Quote Explained • In this monologue, Romeo elevates Juliet to heavenly status by aligning her with the "sun" and the "stars.” • But wait, what’s that light in the window over there? It is the east, and Juliet is the sun. Rise up, beautiful sun, and kill the JEALOUS MOON. the moon is already sick and pale with grief because you, Juliet, her maid, are more beautiful than she.

  17. How to write • “…….”. - (Act I, Scene II) • “……?” – (Act I, Scene II) • In Act I, Scene III of Romeo and Juilet, Romeo says to Benvilo, “……..”. • Romeo turn to Juilet and says, “ ….”. – (…)
