Learning objectives • In accordance with SCELA Standard 1 you will: • Read William Shakespeare’s “Romeo & Juliet” and at the end of every chapter enter a series of questions and comments in your journal. • In accordance with SCELA Standard 2 you will: • Read critiques of the movie “Romeo & Juliet” and compare them with your own journals of the book.
Learningobjectives cont. • Our final 3 learning objectives are as follows: • Watch “Romeo & Juliet” starring Leonardo DiCaprio. • Write an essay about your favorite character. • Produce, perform, and/or take part in the school production • of “Romeo & Juliet”.
The Montague family • The Montague Family consists of several important characters. • Montague and his wife, Lady Montague. • Romeo, (one of our main characters!). • Benvolio, cousin and best friend of Romeo.
The Capulet family • The Capulet Family also consists of some important characters. • Capulet and his wife, Lady Capulet. • Juliet, (another main character!). • Tybalt and Rosaline are also Capulets.
Other characters • There are several other characters of importance. • Prince Escalus – The Prince of Verona. • Count Paris – A suitor to Juliet. • Mercutio – Kin to Escalus and friend to Romeo. • Friar Laurence – Romeo’s confidant.
