Innovation Into the NHS Support for SMEs (C) European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) monies – successfully secured £600,000 Programme delivery: 1st October 2013 – 30th June 2015 Provide Specialist Services to regional SMEs – FREE!! • Accessing the Healthcare Market • Peer Review • Business Development • Licence Opportunities • Intellectual Property Assistance • Product Development • Specialist Market Research ERDF Wealth creation metrics - 22 jobs created / 60 jobs safeguarded - 55 SMEs assists - £2.7 m net increase in GVA

Innovation Into the NHS SME Exemplar Projects (D) - work with 3 to 5 regional SMEs that have potential for high growth - secure investment for these projects Newcastle Diagnostic Evidence Cooperative (DEC) (D) - attractive to industry provides facilities and expertise required for diagnostic evaluation in one integrated process - develop this into a regional asset with Newcastle Hospitals UKTI / Healthcare UK (D) - joint initiative with NHS England, DH and UKTI - explore the potential for a joint initiative Northern Health Sciences Alliance / Other AHSNs (D) - 8 Medical Schools and NHS Teaching Trusts across the North (Durham, Lancaster, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Sheffield and York) - 4 Northern AHSNs

Innovation Into the NHS Funding (C) - Horizon 2020 - Regional Growth Fund Round 6 Project Call – Industry Projects (B & D) - wealth creation / matched funding - develop the successful projects to generate return on investment Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) (C) - discussions with both the North East LEP and Tees Valley Unlimited - extensive European funds for the region (ERDF and ESF) - alignment of the AHSN with LEP strategies - focus on open innovation

  8. AHSN Project Call • Project Call closed 17th January 2014 • Approximate budget £3 million • 139 applications were received totalling more than £10 million • Extensive review process • Successful awards will be made by 31st March 2014
