Wetlands • Areas that are parentally or temporarily covered with water • Home to plants that grow in water- saturated soil • They are found near coastlines,lakes, rivers, and Parries • Act as huge sponges that absorb rain water and reduce risk flooding • Wetlands are divided into 3 different types: • Marshes: Land covered with stagnant water and without trees • Swamps: Land covered with stagnant or slow- moving water in which trees or shrubs grow • Peat bogs: Poorly drained soil carpeted with moss
