  2. Bok! (That is hello in Croatian) We are the members of the Budget Travel Agency. We are going to guide a family of two adults and two children around Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. But first let us brief you on some interesting facts about Croatia…

Croatia’s History… • She settled in the area in the early 7th century. • In 925, King Tomislav become the ruler of Croatia. • In 1102, the country formed a union with Hungary which which lasted until 1918. • After the end of World War 1, Croatia joined Serbia and Yugoslavia formed. • Croatia became one of the Yugoslav republics ruled by the communist government until 1991 when she declared its independence.

  5. Croatia’s Culture… • A hand shake, direct eye contact and the appropriate greeting for the time of the day are standard. • Address people with their honorific titles plus surname. Only close friends and family members tend to use first names. • Close friends may greet each other with an embrace and a kiss on each cheek.

  6. Croatia’s Culture… • Hosts usually introduce guests, starting with the women and then moving on to men. They usually introduce by a rough approximation of age order---- from the oldest to the youngest.
