  1. Latin II Open House Mrs. HwangBo January 23rd, 2014

  2. Academic Topics • Attendance is important, esp. on the block system! • Every student should come prepared to participate in class every day (book, notebook / paper, writing utensil). • Active participation in classroom instruction is the best way to learn and retain the curriculum.

  3. Academic Topics • Students will have small assessments regularly throughout the semester, and a few large assessments interspersed. • Homework is minimal, but students should spend 10 – 15 minutes daily reviewing their vocabulary lists, grammar notes and culture topics.

  4. Grading System • Grades are divided into Georgia Performance Standards categories as listed in the syllabus. • Small assessments (quizzes, some projects) occur on a regular basis and are worth approx. 15 – 30 pts. • Larger test assessments occur in Latin I at the end of larger units.

  5. Misc. Resources • Blog Communication: www.edmodo.com – students have memberships – please use the parent codes & join! • Quizlet: www.quizlet.com - online flashcards, search Harrison HS Latin group • Remind 101 – group texting service used for homework & club reminders. You can join now! • Text the message @mrshwangto (510) 924-0279

Latin Club • 2nd Wednesday of each month, 3:30-4:15, in room 311. • Social opportunity to continue their interest in the classical languages and cultures. • Major Events: Ides of March Macaroni Grill dinner (Mar. 12th), GJCL State Convention (Apr. 11 – 13), HHS Community Service Day (Apr. 26th).

  7. Latin Honor Society Available to Latin III students by invitation only. Academic & citizenship criteria apply. Seniors receive a diploma seal, all may report membership as an academic achievement on college and other applications. Please consider for the future!
