  2. First thing…. Don’t panic! • You may feel like this… • Or this… • Or this…

  3. However… BCMS is AWESOME! It’s ok to be nervous or scared. It’s totally natural….  This is something new.

  4. Is everyone here? • Check class list. • Did I miss anyone? • Who is not on the list? • Who is not here?

  5. Who am I? • I’m Mrs. Murray • I’m from Fredericton • I love sports (Running, Gymnastics, UNB Rugby…) • The Edmonton Oilers are my hockey team • I was a Personal Trainer/Fitness Instructor • I love Reading & Math • Love Music and movies (Especially Comedy movies) • Most importantly: I love my job!

  6. A little more about me… • Fifth year at BCMS – seven years total from Albert St. • I used to work as the Outdoor Phys. Ed teacher at Albert St. and before that I was a Distance Ed teacher based out of LHHS. • My birthday is April 15th • I love working with students in Math and Science &Health. • I coach Volleyball & Rugby(Get involved!) • You can come to me about anything. • I will always look out for my homeroom and for students at BCMS!

  7. Who are you? • You are the best class in the school • You are the GREAT 6C! • You are all capable of doing something great this year. • Let’s create our name tags – Write Three things you like to do on the back of your nametag. You can draw if you wish.

  8. There are rules… • This is your class. A place to be proud of and a place of safety. • My pet peeve! • A “We” Environment. • Your class, respect it. • Bullying is one thing I truly despise. • RAW (Respect, Attitude, Work) • What are some other rules YOU guys think we should have?

  9. Handouts that need to go home – • Communication home is a big deal to me - FRIDAY FILES! • Schedule to put on fridge. • Combined consent form- Bring back tomorrow • Insurance form • Data information sheet – bring back by tomorrow. • School calendar • AGENDA is an important organizational tool – read it! • Daily routine sheet – give to parents/guardian. • Cashless schools form • DO NOT FORGET THESE!

Bus Information • Does everyone know what bus they take at the end of the day? • Walkers must walk directly home – no stopping at store or friends house. • Bussed students do not take any other bus but their own. No taking friends bus. Mrs. Murray is responsible for you! • NEVER LEAVE the school without permission. You should never walk outside, unless it is with a teacher or a permitted activity time.

  11. The Classroom • This is our classroom • We need to treat it with respect. • Books are there for you to read, sign it out first. • Garbage in the trash, not on the floor. • No writing on whiteboard without my permission.

  12. Daily Routine • Cafeteria – Menu will go home with you. You spend one month in classroom and two in the cafeteria. • You can bring a lunch or get lunch from cafeteria for the month in the classroom. • You must bring your lunch for the first couple of days. • Do not go to the vending machines at Nutrition break – only in the mornings or at lunch • Your agenda is always with you. • When returning to this room between classes – stand against lockers and please be silent. • Oh Canada – Be respectful • At the end of the day, you get your things and stand behind your desk to wait to be dismissed. I dismiss the class not the bell!

  13. Fire Drill • Don’t panic. • Fire drill procedure (see sign). Go out of the classroom, turn right and go out the side door. Move onto the bridge and go up to the upper pathway. • You must be quiet and orderly while doing this.

  14. Code Red • The school is “locked down”. • Stay cool  No panicking allowed! • Go to nearest classroom, or room. • Get out of way of any windows. • Stay in area away from windows – along the white board at the back of the classroom. • Stay quiet. • You need to know that our job is to protect you. Your responsibility is to help me do that by following rules.

  15. School Wide Evacuation • In the event of a school wide evacuation classes will proceed out the fire drill door exit. • We will walk to Forest Hill United Church or St. Margaret’s Church. • Classes are to proceed across the parking area to Kimble Court and on to the evacuation site. • This should be done in a quite and orderly fashion.

  16. Agenda • Put your name on the first page of your agenda now. • It is your job to read and go by your agenda everyday. At the end of each day, you must write your homework down and get it signed by me before the ending bell. • We will go over the following agenda now. Please open your agendas. We will also be reading agendas at SSR time.

  17. Washrooms/Fountain • Everybody should be using the washroom during your breaks. Please try to remember this! • Use your agenda for a hall pass….only one at a time. • Use the sign out/in sheet on the white board. • Use the Grade 6 washroom and water fountain. You should not be going up stairs to use the fountain or the washroom. Please stay in the Grade 6 area.

  18. Combination locks • Your locker combination is for your eyes only. NEVER give out your personal combination to anyone for any reason. • Look at me while I demonstrate how to open your lock (see sheet). • When I call your name please come up and get your locker and combination so that you can start practicing. • Write down your combination in your agenda in PENCIL. • PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!

  19. Combination locks (continued) • Do not panic if you cannot open your lock the first time. Just keep practicing and put your hand up for assistance. Be patient and I will come around to see you. • Once you’ve opened it at least 5 times, you can come see me – I’ll tell you which locker’s yours! 

  20. More information for you…. • Allergies – Does anyone have any? What allergies do you have that we need to know. • Medications need to stay at the office! Do we have any meds to take to the office? • We are a NUT-FREE school • DO NOT WEAR AXE DEODERANT or SPRAY – I will take it from you

  22. My Expectations -for you to know and understand • Have self respect. • Have a good attitude • Have respect for other students, teachers and support staff. • Work at your very best! • Everyone must give me 100% effort. • Pass in work on time. • There are no “stupid questions” • Have FUN since we are THE BEST CLASS!!

  23. Consequences • Warning • Talk with students • Detention Point – Action Plan/Gr. 6 Detention Hall/Behavior Reports • Parent Contact- Make sure I have your parents email. • Referral to Administration Go over behavior tracking form

  24. Finding out what you know • From time to time I will be evaluating you on your knowledge (what you know and what I want you to know) • DON’T PANIC! If you work your hardest and attempt assignments with a positive attitude, we will have no problems.

  25. Cheating? • DON’T DO IT! • …that is all.

  26. My stuff & your stuff • Please do not bring valuables to school…save them for home. • Please do bring a positive attitude and a willingness to learn. • Please do not take anything that is not yours • Please do ask to borrow anything that is not yours 

  27. Cashless School • Parents can go to this website and get you set up to pay every fee online • Better than bringing $$ to school • Easy, quick and painless! • Here is the website to put in your agenda: https://www.cashlessschools.com

  28. Homework for tonight!! • Bring in SSR book • Get agenda signed (pg 12/pg 15) • Bring in student fee or pay online • Bring back consent form (signed) • Bring back daily routine signed • Bring indoor shoes • Bring extra shorts and t-shirt for phys. ed class (to leave in your locker) so that you will never be without!

  29. I am so excited to learn about everyone and I know we will have an excellent year! Let us now take a tour of the school. Check out your other class locations, washroom & water fountain location, where the gym is, etc…

  30. Remember! School is a place to learn and have fun. Keep that in mind.
